The STARS Academy

The STARS Academy (Steering Teens Toward Academic Rewards and Success) at Broward College is a mentoring/tutoring program that matches at-risk students, grades 6-12, with local citizens for bi-monthly sessions focusing on reading, math and life skills.

The goal of the STARS Academy program is to encourage students to complete their high school education and to provide them with the academic foundation to pursue a college education.

HANDY, Inc.

HANDY, Inc. (Helping Abused Neglected Disadvantaged Youth). a non-profit 501(c) (3) organization founded in 1985, is a critical resource for Broward County’s abused, neglected, disadvantaged children. HANDY’s mission is to provide a lifeline for the abused, neglected, disadvantaged youth in Broward County. HANDY responds to their needs and enrich their lives on a day-to-day basis…one child at a time.

HANDY Inc. programs provide comprehensive, direct-service programs designed to ensure healthy childhood development by meeting emergency needs for food, clothing, and beds; providing independent living skills training to assist youth with the transition into adulthood; and providing educational, recreational, and social programs so these fragile children can experience some of the joys of childhood to which they would not otherwise have access.

HANDY’s goal is to help children remain safe, receive their most basic needs, nurturing and support as they heal and rebuild their lives. All programs and services are free of cost to the children.

Hands2Help

Hands 2 Help, Inc. is a 501(c) organization committed to involve individuals and agencies to lend helping hands to building a better community since 2003. The organization’s mission is to build better lives and communities by strengthening youth and families with knowledge and skills to be self-sufficient and to bridge the gap between poverty and prosperity.

The organization provides programs for girls aged 4-20 who come from the foster care and juvenile justice systems, as well as from single parent families and children living with grandparents. It is based in the Liberty City and Overtown areas of Miami, Florida. The programs include dance, education, and life skills, as well as field trips to allow the girls to experience the community outside their neighborhoods.

The American Red Cross of Greater Miami & The Keys

The American Red Cross, a humanitarian organization led by volunteers and guided by its Congressional Charter and the Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross Movement, will provide relief to victims of disaster and help people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies.

Broward College Foundation

The Broward College Foundation is dedicated to making success stories happen. In fact, its sole purpose is to advance the mission of the College by raising funds that support the college’s students, faculty, staff and programs.
